Off Duty Uniform
This time of year is rough. There are few daylight hours, it’s cold, and I don’t look good in sweaters. For whatever reason, those chunky, cable knit sweaters bloggers fawn over do not work for me. It’s not an easy time of year. I experience the same dread getting dressed on my time off as I do for work. Last year I gave up and entirely resorted to wearing leggings and sweatshirts after work and on the weekends.
I do not want to be known for wearing only leggings and sweatshirts, even though they’re damn comfortable, so this year I resolved to dress better. And to do so, I opted for what many great people before me have done, I adopted a uniform; a J. Crew gingham shirt, KUT denim, and Sorel boots are my go to on the weekends.
I found these Sorel boots on Black Friday at a shop in downtown Coeur d’Alene. I’d seen them online but refused to pay full price. Come Black Friday and the local shop has them 20% off while Sorel.com didn’t offer any discounts on them. Yay for local businesses! The wedge heels gives my legs a little length and they’re easy to walk in. They also have good traction on the bottom which means I don’t have to slip and slide around all winter.
I got the black and white gingham shirt from J. Crew Factory, it’s light weight and fits true to size (can they do no wrong?). I initially thought I’d wear it for work but have found myself saving it for weekends and time off. I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m I never know if I should tuck button ups in or leave them untucked. Thank goodness for Tan France of Queer Eye who has me converted to the French tuck which gives you the best of both worlds.
During the week as I wear nylons and skirts, I dream of this outfit, of it’s simplicity and comfort. It’s nice to have something put together that takes no time away from the weekend.
