Gap Revival

Oh the Gap. The iconic sweatshirts from the 90’s might be what comes to mind for most. Some might even wonder if anyone still shops there. I remember reading a few years ago the Gap was facing hardships as many stores are. Let me tell you, the Gap is alive and well, being popular in Europe, particularly the UK. Last fall I took a trip to Edinburgh, Scotland and stepped into the Gap, expecting not to buy anything myself, perhaps for my little one. I was mistaken. Not only did I purchase a pair of fleece lined pink pants for my little one, but also made a purchase for myself.

The Gap proved me wrong on two accounts, first, that I wouldn’t buy anything for myself. Secondly, that flannel is reserved for autumn. I found this green flannel shirt by accident. As I waited with a friend at checkout, my eyes wandered over to a rack next to the dressing room labeled “Last Sizes.” This shirt immediately caught my attention. I walked over, found it not only to be my size but deeply discounted (10 GBP or $13.) I tried it on and knew it was a keeper.

The Gap is one of those stores when you first enter, the prices might seem a bit high. However, it is also one of those stores where you ever rarely pay full price (think Carter’s but for adults.) The day we went to the Gap it was 40% off storewide. My particular shirt was originally 30 GBP (almost $40.)

This shirt has transitioned well from winter to spring. The soft texture makes it comfortable enough to layer, yet can hold its own without an addition sweater. I typically pair it with denim, pictured above with a pair of jeans Claire bought for me from J. Crew (another deal.)

There sadly isn’t a gap in Munich, where I live, but I will make a point to visit its various locations when I travel. I enjoy shopping for clothes while traveling. It not only provides unique purchases for my wardrobe, but also acts as a souvenir and remind me of the great memories from trips, such as the one to Edinburgh.
