Spring in the City
I’m back! In mid-February we were hit with a bunch of snow that sapped my motivation to blog, and I had trials that compromised all of my time. It was a bleak period in which my clothes were purely functional. I was either in court or plodding through the snow. Did I mention we had a sh*t ton of snow?
Last weekend we went to Portland, Oregon for a Michael Buble concert. It was the perfect spring get-away after a long, long winter. We drove over to Yakima on Thursday and to Portland on Friday. It rained on the drive over, but once I parked the car, the sun came out, and the trees were in bloom! I was in heaven!
I’d like to say that I spent most of the weekend outside, but honestly, I was inside either shopping, eating, or listening to Michael Bublé. My parents were in Portland as well for the concert, and I tagged along with my mom while she went shopping. Before we left I told myself I didn’t need anything and shouldn’t by anything. It only took about 10 minutes for me to forget that promise I made to myself.
My first purchase was a new pair of Madewell skinny jeans. I realized while I was browsing the denim selection that Nordstrom that I hadn’t bought any denim in over two years. Nordstrom is currently price matching their Madewell denim. I got this pair of distressed, skinny jeans for 20% off. I highly recommend Madewell denim if you’re like me and have a small waist but need more room in the butt and thighs. They have a curvy line that offers all their standard denim but with extra room in butt and thighs. They are exceptionally comfortable, flattering, and well worth the $$$.
My favorite purchase was this beautiful Bernardo car coat. I saw it on the mannequin and promptly had the sales associate strip it from the mannequin. I love the rich, cognac color and the cuffed sleeves. Did I need this coat? No. Did I want it badly? Yes. Outerwear has recently become one of my favorite things to shop for and buy. A good jacket or coat can quickly elevate an outfit and make it stand out. I’d brought a jacket with me for the trip, but quickly packed it once I bought this one. It is a perfect coat for spring.
Another promise I’d made to myself before I left was to get lots of pictures for the blog. After such a long hiatus, I thought “what better place or time to get some content?” That’s another promise that went out the window. As we were pulling out of Portland on Sunday, stuffed full of good food, good coffee, good music, and good memories, I remembered the blog.
"You have to pull over so I can get pictures,” I told Brian. Ever the dutiful Instagram husband, he did. We stopped in the ABC district near some beautiful churches and blooming trees. It took a few tries and poses because of the light, but I did keep one promise to myself that weekend.
Happy spring!
