As Fate Would Have It
A couple of years ago I decided to try Trunk Club through Nordstrom; the subscription service that pairs you with a stylist who sends you a “trunk” full of hand picked clothes, you try them on, keep what you like, and return the rest. It lasted about 5 minutes because it was all way out of my price point. The stylist picked some really beautiful pieces among them a black Diane Von Furstenberg blouse.
It had sheer sleeves that gathered at the wrists, smocking on the shoulders, and a plunging neckline. It draped beautifully and brought me dangerously close to spending an obscene amount of money. But, in true MicroCloset fashion, I was rational, sent it back, and pined for it ever since.
Fast forward to Labor Day 2018, I’m home visiting my parents, and my mom approaches me with my long lost DVF blouse and asks, “Do you want this? I bought awhile back but it really doesn’t suit me.” Fate intervened, it was a miracle! The blouse I lost that nearly drained my savings account was mine and for $0!
For its maiden voyage, I took it out wine tasting at Owen Roe in Wapato, Washington, and paired it with KUT denim, leopard booties, and my faithful Ainifeel bag. It was the perfect top for a warm fall day.
Packing for weekends away I will imagine and plan out outfits in my head without trying them on beforehand. This is a risky little game, the fashion version of Russian roulette. Will this outfit look as good in person as it does in my head or will I wind up shooting myself? Lucky for me, when I envisioned this wine tasting outfit, it came together. And thank goodness, because there was no backup in my suitcase.
There are no new pieces in this ensemble, with the exception of my DVF blouse. I’ve had the KUT denim for over two years, the purse was a gift from my parents for my birthday this year, and I bought the boots earlier this fall. It was a great feeling to put on what felt like a new outfit, but not spend any money to feel so chic.
Thank you for the dream blouse, mom!
