Modest Madness
About a year ago I stumbled across a Refinery 29 video about Hasidic fashion brand called Mimu Maxi. After watching the video I immediately tracked down their Instagram account and started following. I was intrigued by their religion, their openness, their humor, and of course, their fashion. Did you know that Hasidic women must cover their collarbones, elbows, and knees? I didn’t! I live in North Idaho where there are few, if any, Hasidic Jews. It was a whole new world. While I was hooked to their Instagram stories, it took me awhile to take the plunge and try their clothing line.
In early November, I took the plunge and ordered their signature frock in black. I don’t know why I was so nervous when it arrived. Maybe I was worried it wouldn’t live up to all the hype and reviews (it has 5/5 stars), or worse, maybe it wouldn’t fit me. But true to the rave reviews, it fit like a dream. It was soft, stretchy, and modest enough for work.
For it’s debut I paired it with grey tights, my leopard print booties, and my vintage camel coat. A number of people complimented me on my outfit, the frock included, and I realized that this frock is a minimalist’s dream. While it’s lovely on it’s own, it also acts as a great canvas for my bolder pieces. I received just as many compliments on my boots that day as I did on my frock.
I ended up wearing it three times that first week and didn’t feel the need to rip it off the moment I got home like I do with most of my work clothes. I also wore it yesterday, and today I’m wearing the frock in red…I may have a budding addiction. Why? Because it really is as comfortable and versatile as the reviews say it is.
**This isn’t an ad. I just love Mimu Maxi.**
