Love Summer Hate Everything Else
A few years ago I started following the blog and Instagram account, Man Repeller. I was intrigued by their funky take on fashion. Around the time that I started following, Man Repeller’s founder, Leandra Medine, began using the hashtag #lovesummerhateeverythingelse on all of her Instagram posts. Yes! I thought, “that’s how I feel!” I know a lot of fashion bloggers say they prefer autumn for it’s cooler temperatures, fall leaves, pumpkin spice lattes, and chunky sweaters, but not me. I prefer summer with its endless light, scorching temperatures, and minimal clothing. I don’t care for layers and falling leaves and mediocre coffee beverages.
I decided to make the most of this summer and its smoke free air (we are lucky not to have as many wildfires as previous years), and planned a few weekend excursions. Two weeks ago we went to Nelson, B.C. which is a three hour drive and just over the Canadian border. The night before we left, Brian brought up my carry on suitcase from the basement, but I opted to only take a tote bag. It’s summer after all, I didn’t need as much space.
In it I threw two black dresses, a change of clothes for hiking, and my bathing suit. What else would I need for two days of eating and wondering? The MVP of the weekend turned out to be this H&M draped jersey dress that I bought last month. I saw it online in April but it sold out before I could buy it, but luckily they restocked it, because wow! It’s comfortable and chic, a total workhorse.
I paired it with my Dolce Vita pais sandals, a panama hat I and ratan crossbody bag, both of which are available on Amazon (thank you two-day shipping!), and off we went. Nelson is a walk-able town with a few steep streets, and I walked over seven miles without any wardrobe issues the day I wore this outfit. I also ate ramen and drank a decent amount of beer, and the draped jersey hid my beer belly perfectly. It’s the type of dress that makes me #lovesummerhateeverythingelse even more.
I’m off to Yakima next week, and you better believe this dress will the be the first thing I pack. The weather will be hot, the food will be plenty, and the wine will flow. So what better to keep me cool and comfy than my #lovesummerhateeverythingelse dress?
