Cozy is Chic
Cozy is chic. It has to be because it’s so damn cold! On Tuesday a friend convinced me to go to a 5:30 am barre class. When my alarm went off at 5:00 am, I checked the weather. It was 18 degrees. How could that be? It wasn’t even Halloween yet, and we were already experiencing January temperatures. I don’t know what was worse: the 5:00 am wake up or the weather.
When I got back from class, I checked the weather again. The high for the day was 31, 31 is below freezing. I glanced at my closet and knew that my pre-planned outfit of cotton slacks and top would not cut it. Below freezing weather called for something warmer, something that involved layers, tights, and boots. So naturally, I reached for my beloved Mimu Maxi frock. You may remember Mimu Maxi from some of my earlier posts. Mimu Maxi is a Chassidic, Jewish clothing brand out of Crown Heights, Brooklyn. It’s modest, minimalist fashion inspired by the Row. I love it.
I blogged about the Mimu Maxi frock last year which I first bought in black. They offered the frock in a rainbow of colors, but I told myself one was enough, “I am living out of a micro-closet after all.” I now own the rainbow. Mimu Maxi released the frock in plum earlier this year, and I swore that I wouldn’t buy it, but by now you realize I have no self control. And I’m really glad I don’t because this color is perfect for fall and a nice change from the black and navy I usually wear.
Tuesday after barre, I paired it with a no-name blazer I picked up from TJ Maxx, black tights, and boots. I always belt my frocks because otherwise it goes from Mimu Maxi to Mumu Maxi real quick. It was the perfect cold weather outfit to lift my spirits. It was soft, cozy, and modest which was perfect for a morning full of court hearings. After lunch I stepped up the cozy factor and jammed a beanie on my head. I’d never felt more comfortable on a cold day.
The weather forecast promises it will warm up soon, but I can still see my breath when I step outside. It’s okay though because I now have a different colored frock for every day of the week.
Stay warm friends!
