Ode to the Mom Jeans

On the stigma Mom jeans gets. I'm here to change the bad rep of one my closet staples. As all the moms know out there, having a lot of time to pick out an outfit for the day is a thing of the past. Let me define “a lot of time.” For me, this would mean more than 60 seconds before my two year old tries to pull out the entire contents of my closet. I opt for speed dressing over trying to compromise with her (there is no such thing as compromise with a two year old.) Due to my lack of time, I have come to appreciate set outfits which I basically wear until my toddler flings food on it or colors on me. I like to think of these outfits as my mom uniform.

I’m proud to say that almost my entire outfit was bought at either TJ Maxx or Nordstrom Rack. The jeans in particular were a real find when Claire and I went to Nordstrom Rack this past summer. I found this pair of Paige jeans on clearance (score!) at Nordstrom Rack, costing me a fraction of their normal price. The rolled cuff saves me a step of hemming my jeans.

The down vest was the only item not purchased while in the States. This navy Gap vest is a worthy investment as I am able to wear it by itself or layered under my rain jacket for added warmth. It got a lot of use the past two months before winter hit Munich.

The gray sweater and Newbalance sneakers were finds at TJ Maxx this past summer. I can not praise the shoes enough. Not only have they held up incredibly well, they are so comfortable! They’ve made many trips to the playground and show little signs of wear.

Like many moms out there who are strapped for time, not having much time for fashion doesn’t mean I don’t want to look put together. Outfits like the one pictured offer time-saving solutions. This is when it pays to invest in quality denim that gets put to the test day after day, week after week. Such jeans are reliable and predictable, quite unlike my days with a two year old.
