Sergeant Pepper's Newest Member
Vintage coat, WhoWhatWear jacket, Madewell denim, Sam Edelman boots
Somewhere between starting War and Peace (but not finishing it, whoops) and one of the dozen rotations of The Beatles' "Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band," I found myself dreaming of a structured military jacket. It only took one Google search to show that I was not alone. Everyone from Smythe to Banana Republic had one in their fall/winter collection. After a couple of failed orders through Macy's, I found mine, like I do most trendy pieces, through Target's WhoWhatWear line.
Inspired by War and Peace and the Beatles
I saw it online but didn't purchase it until I saw it in store. It looked even better in person, particularly on my person. It was black velvet with gold piping and buttons. It was soft to the touch and comfortable enough to wear all day, but also structured so I could wear it to work, although I prefer to pair it with cuffed skinny jeans and black booties.
Gold details pop against the black velvet
I usually dress up a black jacket, denim, and black boots combo with a statement necklace, but the gold details on this jacket make it a great stand-alone piece. I wore this particular outfit out shopping last weekend and wore the jacket with wide-cut pants and heels to court today.
Do you think Sergeant Pepper will let me join the lonely hearts club band?
It's one of those rare pieces that is better than what I'd originally wanted because it can be worn for any occasion. It also inspires me to finish War and Peace...maybe.
