Summer Kick-Off

Summer Kick-Off

Memorial Day weekend always feels like the beginning of summer to me, even though it officially doesn't begin until next month.  I love the warm weather, the smell of bbq, and pulling out my cut-offs.  Lately I've had an itch to travel somewhere and be on the water, but have been too tired (and broke) by the end of the week to go anywhere.  Lucky for me, we've moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho which means I can have mini stay-cations all summer long.

Vacation always means good food, so we kicked off the weekend at Roger's.  It's an old school drive-in that serves great burgers and ice cream.  I ate lunch at noon on Friday and decided to forego an afternoon snack so that I'd have room for a burger and ice cream...we ate dinner at 9:00pm so I wolfed down my burger and frieds and still had room for a double scoop of huckleberry ice cream.

Saturday we explored downtown which Coeur d'Alene which has lots of fun shops and restaurants.  Even though I've been living and working here for the past couple of months, I've spent the majority of my time between my office, the courthouse, and the jail, so this was my first real day on the town.

We hit up a number of shops and galleries and strolled along the boardwalk.  And of course, I got some more ice cream!

Monday morning I woke up earlier so I could beat the crowds and hike Tubbs Hill which is located downtown on the lake just east of the resort.  There are a couple of well-maintained main trails and a number of hiker made trails to follow.

There are maps at the trail head but it's impossible to get lost. I zigzagged my way all over and found some killer views.  It reminded me of when I lived in Manly, Australia and spent my weekends hiking and swimming.  I'll be spending a lot more time by the water this summer.

How luck am I to live here with these views?

We have a small trip planned for this summer but it's nice to know most weekends will feel like vacation.
