Wintour Is Coming

Earlier this summer I was helping my mother-in-law clean out her basement and I stumbled across a box of fur coats.  Yes, fur coats.  They were beautiful, warm, soft to the touch, and they should have made the animal rights advocate in me cringe.  But I’m a hypocrite and a sucker for vintage pieces (sorry PETA).  My mother-in-law kindly offered them to me and I immediately thought “Halloween costume!”  Typically, I don’t dress up for Halloween or have much of an imagination for costumes (I usually throw on my dirndl and carry a bierstein, wow, original Claire), so I had to Google “fur coat, Halloween costume” for ideas.  Google delivered a few good ideas, but when I came across HER name, I knew there was no other choice.

Anna Wintour.

Anna Wintour...or is it?  Hard to tell the difference.

Anna Wintour is the Editor in Chief of Vogue Magazine and a fashion powerhouse.  She’s best known for her pageboy haircut, dark sunglasses, RBF, and affinity for Starbucks coffee.  You may know of her from The Devil Wears Prada in which Meryl Streep portrays Ms. Wintour's fictional character, Miranda Priestly.

It was a fun, easy costume to put together: I had the fur coat, sunglasses, and Starbucks cup.  All I had to buy was the wig ($20 and 2 day shipping, thanks Amazon!).  Anna Wintour is not the most recognizable Halloween costume in Northern Idaho, but she is a fashion icon, and for good reason.

Ms. Wintour believes in developing one's style, not following trends, and mixing high end and low end fashion.  And a woman after my own heart, she doesn't carry a purse.
