North Idaho is experiencing a rather odd weather pattern this winter.  January was unusually mild and allowed for skirts and bare legs and lighter coats, while February dropped an enormous of snow and cold temperatures.  The warmer days had my hopes up and spring apparel at the forefront of my closet, but as March approaches I find myself layering up and grabbing for my snow boots more often than not.  Will spring ever come?

I've lived in Idaho long enough to know that my wardrobe requires more cold weather pieces than warmer weather pieces so finding something to wear has not been issue (although it feels uninspiring).  A couple of weeks ago I reached for a favorite combination of mine: J. Crew wool skirt and a short sleeved, turtleneck sweater.

But Claire, don't you want a long sleeved sweater for those colder temperatures?  No, I run hot.

I'm a fan of classic pieces in a monochromatic color scheme because it allows for endless mixing, matching, and wearing.  I've had the sweater since 2011 and I bought the skirt as part of two piece suit last year.  I rarely wear the suit together (unless I have trial) but love to pair the skirt with other tops.  And how many of you have had a sweater for six years and still wear it regularly?

Staples such as these are a great addition to any microcloset or wee wardrobe.  They provide durability and versatility, and most places have put their winter lines on sale right now (score!).  As I double check the weather to confirm more snow and cold weather, I know that I will be well dressed for the endless winter.
