Rain rain go away

Rain rain go away

I woke up this morning to another day of drizzling rain outside my window.  I couldn't help but feel a little exasperated, after all, the saying "April showers bring May flowers" implies that this month would have been a little drier.  Alas, my weekly weather forecast is filled with rain, which will most likely extend throughout the summer (I hope I'm wrong but this has been my experience so far.)

Claire and I grew up in the arid climate of central Washington, where rain was seen as almost exotic and absolutely necessary for the farmers.  I think this is why I just can't quite adapt to the damp climate of Munich, even after 5 years, and Claire struggles with rainy northern Idaho.  Despite our resistance, we've discovered how to be water-resistant yet fashionable.

I've added two indispensable items to my micro-closet: rainboots and a rain jacket.  Rain boots need not be a major investment; I bought mine for under €15 (or $18.00).  I prefer black Chelsea rain boots because I live in an urban area, which means I do a lot of walking, and my boots get a lot of wear. A taller rain boot style would been awkward to walk longer distances in.

With boots like these, there's no need to avoid puddles!

This spring I also purchased a Tommy Hilfiger, navy rain jacket from Nordstrom Rack.  I prefer Tommy Hilfiger outerwear for its quality and fit, and this jacket is no exception.

Neither item was pricey, which is important because I don't like to spend money on items for weather I do not enjoy.  However, the style and quality of both are surprisingly good and the jacket in particular has clean lines and sharp details, which make it fun to wear.  I almost look forward to the days it rains so I can sport it, well, almost.

Claire dropped a little more $$$ on her rain jacket a couple of years ago when she opted for a classic trench coat that she could wear to work or out and about.  Typically, Claire avoids spending a lot of money for rain gear (she's just as adverse to the rain as I am), but she wanted something classic that would stand the test of time.  She recommends investing in a classic trench if you live in a wet climate.
